EXHIBIT OPENS AUGUST 3, 2025
with RECEPTION 1 - 4 PM
Award winning artist Lynn S. Newman, Watertown NY, will share the spotlight this August 2025 as featured artist alongside her sister and artist Donna Strejlau. Both are founding members of the Arts Association of Northern New York, holding board positions for over 20 years.
Lynn has had an interest in art since being a young child. Her mediums of choice are pastels and watercolors, dabbling with colored pencil and graphite. A class with her mom at BOCES found them immersed in stained glass, later being joined by Donna as well. Taking many classes, either on line or as workshops, expanded her fun and abilities learned. She is also a self-taught jewelry maker, specializing in polymer clay as well as beaded pieces.
Donna has alway6s had a passiobn for various art forms, and she is award-winning in pastel, photography, and sketching. Her plans are to include stained glass and pastels during their August show. Crocheting became a new love several years ago, and she’s known for her beautiful scarves. Donna holds the record for the highest donation at AANNY Auction for her pastel of Harbor Dusk. You’ll see another original pastel in AANNY’s 2025 Auction on August 9.
Lynn, after graduating from General Brown High School she continued her education at Jefferson Community College, with degrees in liberal arts and accounting. Working at the Children’s Home of Jefferson County as a cottage parent, Lyng’s Office Center as office manager, WB Mason and then retiring from Griffith Energy, she is now focused on creating art and jewelry.
Donna spent her career in the OB/GYN and Mental Health fields and is now enjoying retirement.
Lynn and Donna also had a talented brother, Tom Strejlau, who passed in 2022 from pancreatic cancer at the age of 57. Woodworking, especially furniture, was his specialty and passion. Many homes in the area are graced with his talent, as well as businesses, such as the Blue Heron in Chaumont NY.
