Born in Ogdensburg, Peter Basta began painting at a young age under the mentorship of accomplished landscape and seaway artist John Morrow. After graduating from St. Lawrence University, he settled in Cape Cod, where he launched his teaching career while continuing to refine his painting.

Upon returning to the North Country, Peter continued teaching and spent several years working in illustration and commercial art before transitioning to oils. His work is inspired by his experiences along the seaway, as well as summers spent at his cottage near Black Pond in Henderson Harbor.
